Terephthalic acid, ethylene glycol and antimony catalysts involved in pet synthesis have certain effects on human health. The specific hazards are described below.
Terephthalic acid: white, loose crystalline powder at normal temperature, non-toxic and flammable. Irritating to eyes, mucosa and upper respiratory tract.
Ethylene glycol: it is a low toxic substance. If you inhale heated and volatile ethylene glycol vapor or drink ethylene glycol by mistake, it can cause acute poisoning; If ethylene glycol vapor is inhaled for a long time, it will cause chronic poisoning. The LD50 of rats is 5.5 ~ 8.54ml/kg, and that of humans is 80 ~ 100g. The concentration of ethylene glycol in blood reaches 2.4g/l, which can cause acute renal failure. The symptoms of inhalation poisoning are confusion, nystagmus, protein, calcium oxalate crystals and red blood cells in urine.
Antimony catalyst: antimony catalyst is the most commonly used catalyst in polyester production, mainly including antimony trioxide, antimony acetate, antimony glycol, etc., all of which are white crystalline powder. Antimony acetate and ethylene glycol antimony will decompose into acetic acid and antimony oxide fumes when heated, of which antimony oxide fumes are acute poisons, which will cause gastrointestinal disorders, vomiting, diarrhea, and neurological diseases.
